Compote de Pommes

Compote de Pommes

TGIF!!! I am always happy for Friday, but I am particularly happy this week. My husband has been out of town for work all week and he gets home tonight!

Once again French Fridays with Dorie had the perfect recipe for the kind of week I had. Compote de Pommes is French for applesauce. We made applesauce! The perfect easy-to-make, kid-friendly, comforting snack or dessert.

While applesauce is easy enough to make, this recipe added a few twists to make it interesting. First of all, there are two end results to choose from: traditional applesauce, or a thicker, jammier version. I chose the more traditional applesauce. The recipe has you cook down the apples with a bit of brown sugar. After puréeing, you can add more sugar to sweeten it up and also some optional vanilla. I left out the extra sugar, but tried the vanilla.

Applesauce and Cream

This was yummy! I liked the subtle vanilla flavor, but it would be equally good without it. Since this recipe is in the dessert chapter, I decided to treat it as such, and served my applesauce with a dollop of whipped cream. It made a healthy dessert seem decadent!

Have a great weekend…I know I will!

  1. Yours looks wonderful! I did about the same, substituting marscapone. I’m lazy so I basically just mashed them for a chunkier version. What a nice Friday treat to look forward to – hope you have a wonderful weekend.

  2. I loved the vanilla in the applesauce. This was a great recipe and one of my favorites.

  3. I agree the vanilla really made it special… glad you enjoyed it too.

  4. I so agree the vanilla was such a nice addition! We really enjoyed this one! Yours looks so pretty with the dollop of cream on top!

The vanilla did make a difference. I like the idea of the whipped cream

  6. The vanilla with apples was a different flavor profile than I’m used to. I wouldn’t have thought of it, but loved it. I hope you have a great weekend!

  7. Kid and adult friendly I would say. We really enjoyed this one, though I went all the way and added butter too! Still sounds crazy to me, but it sure was good:-)

  8. I made mine chunky, with vanilla AND butter… BUT I did not think of Cream! Now, I gotta make it again! 😉

  9. Yes, these are the types of desserts that should show up more often.
    Cream was a lovely addition.

I think the whipped cream tops it off beautifully!
