Hummus (Spooner Lake Picnic)

Last Sunday we took a day trip to Spooner Lake, a pretty alpine lake just a stone’s throw from Lake Tahoe.  It’s about an hour’s drive from our house. Spooner Lake has a 2 mile trail circling the lake. In the summer people hike or mountain bike around it, and in the winter it is open for cross-country skiing.

After a picnic lunch in the woods we trekked down to the lake. My daughter does not have the stamina to walk all the way around the lake, but we did walk a bit and then stopped for one of her favorite activities: throwing rocks in the water. The weather was perfect and we had a great time!

Last week’s French Fridays with Dorie recipe provided the perfect picnic lunch. I had always heard hummus was easy to make but had never tried it. I whipped it up Sunday morning and it was as easy as expected. The hardest part was getting the seasoning just right.

We ate the hummus with baby carrots, celery sticks, and multi-grain pita chips. It was the perfect picnic! I enjoyed snacking on the leftover hummus throughout the week.

The FFWD group doesn’t share recipes, but you can find it in Dorie Greenspan’s Around My French Table. Here is a similar recipe you can try: Hummus Recipe on Epicurious.

Perfect place for a picnic, and such a great idea to bring the hummus
for snacking. This was really easy to make and I enjoyed it too. Have
    a wonderful week.

  2. Oh – I am sure the setting made the hummus even tastier.
Somehow, I didn’t realize that you lived that far west. Such a beautiful area!
