This week’s French Fridays with Dorie recipe is called Navarin Printanier, which roughly translates to “Spring Lamb Stew”.
The day I made this stew I was obsessed with reading The Hunger Games. The fact that I was making a lamb stew brought to mind the lamb stew that Katniss Everdeen enjoyed eating so much. The more I thought about it the more I realized how blessed I am to be able to make something like lamb stew for my family. That it’s not a luxury out of reach to me.
Navarin Printanier would have been a perfect dish for this cool spring we’ve been having. Except that the day I made it we were having hotter than normal temperatures. It was 90 degrees! I was so hot making this, and eating it did nothing too cool me down. It still tasted good!
Despite the heat, I loved Navarin Printanier. The lamb was tender, the broth rich and flavorful, and the vegetables were perfectly cooked.

Karen, Your stew looks delicious…Such a lovely photo…makes me hungry! We’re having a bit of a cold spell this week after having unseasonably warm weather for weeks. A freeze warning is in effect! Go figure!

Yeah, it’s a little warm in my neck of the woods also. That’s why I almost see this as a winter all-in-one meal but I get it – the springtime vegetables. I have the Hunger Games trilogy sitting on my table. Finally am going to break down and read them. Have you seen the movie? I can just picture you, a wooden spoon in one hand, the book in the other.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’m hoping to go next week!

Yes 90 degrees is too hot for stew but I managed to eat it 2 days in a row! I have not gotten into the hunger games yet. My daughters on book 2 and has seen the movie. It’s required reading at my grand children’s school. I think I better get with the times and read the set!

It wasn’t even that warm here and I still thought that it was the wrong season for this dish. Stew belongs to a cold winder night. But it was still good.
This looks so lovely. I haven’t read the book yet but I feel so left out of it for not having done so. I hate that feeling! So guess what I’ll be getting today? lol. your fault!

I just read The Hunger Games last week, but didn’t make the connection until you mentioned it. Wasn’t it a good read (though quite disturbing). I just got book #2 but haven’t started it yet. You’re a trooper to make this in the heat. Our weather cooled down and it was perfect comfort food. Have a great week.

Wow, 90 degrees! I read all 3 of the Hunger Games, and like you, I found it very hard to put the book down once I started. Yes, it is a blessing not to have to hunt my protein! Have you seen the movie?
